Omerta: City of Gangsters Review

omerta city of gangsters logo

Omerta: City of Gangsters gets the presentation spot on, but falls short in every other area.

Omerta: City of Gangsters has you attempting to achieve one goal: become the biggest crime lord in America. It’s an idea for a game that would seem to be easy to execute. By making tons of dirty money and shooting your way to the top, it should be quite a ride getting to the top, but sadly that is not the case with Omerta.

The game play is split into two parts. A majority of the game play is an isometric strategy title. Players will recruit different gangsters to join your squad, and send them to different buildings to complete tasks and take over the city one building at a time. The second part plays out like a turn based strategy title. Each mobster has their own unique set of skills, such as being able to shoot two guns at once or being able to heal their wounds for a single turn.

Cognition An Erica Reed Thriller Episode 2: The Wise Monkey Review

Cognition Episode 2 The Wise Monkey Logo

Cognition Episode 2: The Wise Monkey fixes a lot of issues The Hangman had, and starts to build a story that is truly interesting.

Last time we saw Erica Reed she was hot on the case of The Hangman, but in the end she ended up having to deal with even more death and mysteries than before. Now Erica has a new case she must figure out known as The Wise Monkey. This time Erica’s personal life is being invaded, and if she doesn’t act quick enough, she will lose yet another person she is close to.

The first Episode of Cognition suffered from a few growing pains. With a new story characters need to be introduced, but when you have episodic content, it can be hard to fit a lot of information in a single episode. The issue then became information overload, and Erica never felt like the star of story. It also had a few issues with pacing and home some trouble keeping the story interesting before the curtain closed on The Hangman.  Overall, it was a decent start to Cognition, but there was definitely some room for improvement.

Luckily, Episode 2 of Cognition, The Wise Monkey, improves a lot upon the first episode.

DMC: Devil May Cry Betrays Fans of the Series

devil-may-cry-dmc-logo

DMC: Devil May Cry might be a reboot, but that is no excuse to forget everything the series is known for.

I have been a fan of Devil May Cry since the original on the PS2. I really enjoyed the first game, hated the second one, and fell in love with Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s awakening. There was something special about Awakening that made me fall in love with the series. To that point, I had never really experienced a game that was so insanely difficult, but still amazing at the same time. It became one of my favorite games of all time, and to this day it is still a game I like to visit from time to time. DMC has finally hit stores, and I can say with confidence, the franchise I love is gone.

Of course when the trailer hit for DMC, I like many others, felt betrayed by Capcom. Rebooting a series that I fell in love with, was the complete opposite of what I wanted. Devil May Cry 4 was not the best in series, but it was still an amazing game. It had tight controls, epic combos, and ran smooth as butter. Everything a good Devil May Cry game has. Nobody complained about it, and there isn’t a person I know that wanted the series to be rebooted.

DMC finally hit stores, almost 5 years after Devil May Cry 4.  I wanted to wait till DMC hit stores to make my judgment, and now that it is officially out, I can truly say, I feel completely betrayed. I patiently waited for the PC version, because Devil May Cry is meant to be played in 60 frames, and even with my doubts purchased the title hoping the reboot would be good. There is something about DMC that just pisses me off.

A perfect picture for what Capcom did to the fans.

Original Gears of War Included With Judgement

Gears of War Judgement title

Gears of War Judgement rumored to include original Gears of War.

One of Microsoft’s most successful franchises, Gear of War, will be getting a new game this March. Gears of War Judgement will be hitting stores soon, but there is a rumor circulating that Judgement will ship with another game included. The rumor states that a download code for the original Gears of War will be included in the box.The rumor does make sense considering Judgement is a prequel to the original game, and that is a good way to get people to bite on the rest of the franchise.

Gears of War Judgement is being developed by People Can Fly, and places the player in the perspective of the fan favorite, Baird. Fans of the series can expect some cool new features, such as the Smart Spawn System, and will give players some insight on events that occurred before the original trilogy. A new multiplayer mode known as OverRun, will also introduce a class based multiplayer, a first for the franchise. Gears of War Judgement hits stores on March 19th, 2013 for the Xbox 360.
