Classic Doom Titles Can Be Accessed While Doom 3: BFG is Installed
Bethesda explains that Doom and Doom 2 can be played while Doom 3: BFG Edition is installed, but players will have to access the classic titles from the My Games menu.
Recently a story hit the press that installing Doom 3: BFG Edition will “Lock Out” players who try to play Doom and Doom 2. We now know that is not entirely true. After reaching out to Bethesda, they have explained why the “Lock Out” occurs, and that players can still play Doom and Doom 2 after installing.
DOOM I and II are the same games that are that are currently available on Xbox LIVE. Installing DOOM BFG files to the system’s hard drive could cause a conflict with the existing XBLA game files.
Players should not see a performance advantage by installing DOOM 3, so we recommend not installing the game to the Xbox HDD.
If people do install DOOM 3 BFG Edition to their hard drive, they should still be able to access both titles from the Xbox LIVE Dashboard under “My Games”.
The “Lock Out” only occurs if players try to access Doom and Doom 2 while playing Doom 3. So if you are like many others that just hate console noise and install their 360 games, you can rest assured that you can play Doom and Doom 2, but you will have to act like they are arcade titles.
