I expect sales of 150,000-200,000 in the opening weekend. It will go on steadily at a much lower rate afterwards so i expect sales of 3-4 million after 6 months worldwide. This will pick up at Xmas bringing it to a total of 10 million at which point the Playstation Vita will be safe. Unfortunately I don't think it will sell as many as the Psp.

Tanto, The guy who can't seem to use caps when appropriate. I figured I'd take the time out to make comment on your comments as well as the authors --I'll use your approach on the whole matter.
Do try an' keep up.

First and foremost, despite errors in grammar, and some punctuation I felt was in question here and there, this piece was one man's collection of ideas on games from Japan. An opinion piece.
And despite your many errors, Tanto, you did leave you opinion, as well.
Though I have to say, out of the two, one had more annoying words than the other...

Yes, Japan is weird. So are places in the US where they eat 'gator' and opossum pot pie. Even at a Mickey D's in Germany you can get a beer --weird, yeah? But I didn't read that as an insult, so Tanto, if you aren't from Japan (born and raised), pull your knickers out your ass and have a seat.

""And the US with diamonds and tiaras isnt?""

What the hell does that even mean?

So, yes, Japanese games are weird. So are European games and American games --ideas for games come from all over the world, and even though some seem influenced by drugs, there are oddities in every game. In every genera.

The point of game design and technology is to explore, to push, to discover, and create~ In order to make something new, you have to revisit the old, build on it, and some times crash and burn. So both of you just kinda put your foot in your own mouth on that idea.

When it comes to the eroge and porn talk/debate..Porn is number one in the US, but mind you those sales are worldwide. Think about that.
Furthermore, on that topic, nothing along the lines of "erotic" that comes from Japan, ever makes it to the states unless it is special ordered, and just because one guy doesn't know all about that doesn't mean that others are just as ignorant. But still, those games tend to have mega creep factor...
Need I go on?

"“That is the reason a lot of gamers are very uncomfortable about Japanese games,”

Actually more people are uncomfortable with western games which is why japanese games sell more worldwide"

What..? Hey man, if I like a game I play it. That's how most people are, the casual crowd could care less where a game is from. But what elements are there to make gamers uncomfortable? Tell me, someone, please. I mean it is a matter of opinion of what is and is not weird, so be offended and find discomfort on your own time --both of you are generalizing there.
Look at a lot of the games made of a more "casual" nature that you can find on sites like AdultSwin.com --Amateur Surgeon, really is something to feel a bit uncomfortable about, if that's not your thing. The comfort level of a game is something of us can decide on our own.
When the topic is "games" you can't really be closed off to only talking about counsel games and gaming.

So...what's wrong with Dragon Age, now? As far as I can tell it involves that same general JRPG idea of "save the world"..Is it because the mythos that it follows has no ideology from the far East? Or what?

"“For one, stop putting tiny children in revealing clothing and saying they’re of age; that’s not even weird, that’s just flat out creepy.”

diamonds and tiaras……………….brittney spears, ect. Dont accuse others what the US has done for decades……………"

"Diamonds and tiaras" again? Would you be trying to refer to the warped tv "hit" Toddlers in Tiaras? Well, those people have a poor self image and try to make themselves into butterflies by having pretty kids --it's messed up.
HOWEVER it's not like a six year old venturing off with the hero to help protect the kingdom or get the bad guys. Nothing wrong with that. Kids have some pretty badass moments in games. I think that can be pretty cool and I would love to see more of that, personally. Teams of siblings are always a nice change, as opposed to the boy meats girl take in a lot of JRPGs. (You don't have to fall in love to save the world.)
BUT Lolicon characters...Ugh. And Heaven forbid Shotacon makes the cut too...Ok well we all know the aspects of either fetish. Young, bright eyed boys and girls with flat chests and flushed cheeks --kind of a cute picture, huh? If you factor out the chest measurements, I am sure such a picture makes one recall a youthful family member and go "aww".
Now...have an eleven year old girl run around with no pants, a cape that ties at the neck, and defies gravity, always keeping the chest covered, and give her a hammer, magic, or a doll for a weapon, and then you have the offensive Loli. Not even actual Ero Litas in Japan would go out the door dressed like that!

Females characters in games often go overshadowed. Either you get the "sex pot", tomboy, or the cry baby --and sometimes the sex pot is the cry baby. Well let's not forget "the bad ass bitch" --and that's if that lucky tomboy grows up to develop massive breasts.
Japan is really the worst when it comes to "sexy" game girls. Apparently in JRPGs, items are kept safe in breasts of your most busty comrade.
Also, Japan, really is about the sex when it comes to female characters (and in some cases male character, too), even the strong types, good or bad, are steeped in fem Dom apparel and really ought to give up their wicked ways and bring in the dough as a Dominatrix.
If I were a character in a game, I'd know just who to fight based on how little she wore and what kind of weapon she had. That's just lame.

"“While a lot of Japanese games usually make use of teenagers in their games, mostly JRPGs, they try to bring in a certain demographic by adding a little girl to join in the players party.

Publishers at times even change characters ages, like with Atelier Totori, characters received a three year jump compared to the original Japanese release.”

YOU ARE SUCH A DUMBASS………….TOTORI IS 18. 18 YEARS OLD IDIOT. ATELIER HAS BEEN A SUCCESSFUL FRANCHISE FOR 15 YEARS, SELLS WELL IN THE US, VERY WELL."

Um...Now you use caps...great, Tanto. But can I just point out, for the record here, the character images used, are proof enough. In Japan the girls were underage, and as a result they had their ages changed. Totooria is said to be nineteen --big whoop. Some characters are legal, others, not so much.

What about, in addition to the US being strict on their views of character's ages, there's also homophobia in when games cross over from Japan. Take the character Hans from Bloody Roar, better known as 'Fox'. Due to his feminine nature and style of dress, in the US he is said to be female. The character was later dropped and replaced with the like minded Jenny (the Bat).

Anyone care about things like that?

"“I can’t help but be annoyed by how crappy females are in Japanese games, they are the worst in JRPGs.”

generalizing false opinion"

What in the hell is a false opinion? My new favorite oxymoron, that's what.
Dumb ass.

"“Japan has something against men with muscles;”

you want them all to be steroid freaks like gears of war and that crappy rpg mass effect?

largo, barrett, bowser. There you go in 2 seconds I thought of 3 j rpg characters with muscles"

Whatever...wait, Bowser? Really? lmao
Nice. But I think the point trying to be made was simply that the heroes seem to be secret lady boys, or even trannies.
I would like to defend that choice, though, and say that the Japanese are trying to make the "beautiful yet deadly" statement, with their men. Though I am really baffled by those frail looking lads with big swords, it gets comical after a while.
Also --no matter what, the hero is almost always girly, no matter what the rest of his part looks like.

Compare (from Chrono Cross) Grobyc to Serge and Nikki. Nikki is oddly in the middle, Serge looks two years younger than what he is and acts it (save for some concept art and fan works), and Grobyc was, well he was built that way.

As per the technology in Japan, I tend to think they've gone leaps and bounds over the concept of coding, and have worked on other aspects in games, stories that come back around full circle, emotion, and character interactions and development --that coding seems almost too simple. Maybe that's me just trying to save face, I do love a good RPG, not matter it's point or origin.

"“This may be the biggest problem with the Japanese gaming industry, most refuse to work with publishers or developers outside of Japan.”

its the best thing because they are garbage"

And much as I like Japan, from music, clothes, games, and food...I'm not in agreement with this idea. I know, without a doubt, if Japanese developers would be more open, we could see some nice changes in our games, besides the point of technology and living beings is to constantly evolve.

Lastly, about those cutscenes...Damn~ I love 'em! But also, I don't want to "watch" my game. By all means, developers, show off your skill and artful detail, show me the work from every member of your team --I go gaga for tiny things like shading and use of shadows. Do show me what you can do, and let that be a tiny perk to choosing any game (in addition to a good story). But don't keep me waiting. Don't give me 10 hours or less of game-play because you got a little carried away with making art. I like a good cutscene as much as the next gamer, and I'm not saying hold it off until the end, but don't eat up my game time with movies are anime stills and text or voice overs. I play games to play games.

I made the choice not to make comments on what was and what was not "close minded" --I already admitted how I feel about games. I play only what I like. Also, I am opting not to be an ass and speak for the masses.

I can see what he's trying to get at in his article. There's no denying that Japanese cartoons, comics, and manga put minors in ridiculously sexual situations. Would it kill them to bump the age up a little? To the non-Japanese, its kinda weird. That isn't to say that stuff like that doesn't exist in America, but you don't see it in many American made games. Also, Japanese games can be just as boring and generic as western titles, as we're seeing the same tropes and reused crap we've seen in 100's of JRPGs before (this is coming from a guy who loves JRPGs to death, from the FF series to the Shin Megami Tensei games). There's no need to call the guy an asshole and put him down for having an opinion. Play nice, kids.

I can see what he’s trying to get at in his article. There’s no denying that Japanese cartoons, comics, and manga put minors in ridiculously sexual situations. Would it kill them to bump the age up a little? To the non-Japanese, its kinda weird. That isn’t to say that stuff like that doesn’t exist in America, but you don’t see it in many American made games.
Lies? What exactly did I lie about? Was it about the cut scenes or the point that I still see Japan as perhaps the most creative force in the industry?

I simply chose one title rather than a bunch as I wanted to avoid the sense that I hated the Japanese gaming industry.

These advise of mine are just what I'd like to see happen as I feel they may bring more publishers to bring more Japanese titles to the west.

You can have an opinion but when you generalize, lie, and just make up half truths I need to comment

Have you even played atelier? the series you rag on?

The series has been around for 15 years and is popular worldwide.

Hell all the games sell so well in the US nisa doesnt even waste time to localize. And they are very highly thought off

I play JRPGs as well as the occasional platformer so yes I do see these things when I'm playing them.

You are so stupid. I have to correct almost every sentence

"Japan is a weird place"

And the US with diamonds and tiaras isnt?

" but Japan is probably the definition of weird to many people especially when it comes to their video games."

Thats because everything else is so generically boring. Anything with imagination is considered weird.

"There are some Japanese game developers trying to break away from the negative representation that a lot of other Japanese developers have set onto the world."

And there are alot of western devs trying to prove they can do non generic stuff

for instance the KOA dev has said " all bethesda games are the same the only difference is some have more bugs than others"

"Like the mass amount of eroge games that comes out more often than a Capcom re-release “updated version” game. For those whom do not know, eroge is a genre of erotic or pornographic videos or computer games."

And the porn industry in the US isnt huge? Its the biggest entertainment field in the US by about 10 billion dollars. Eroge isnt the biggest entertainment field in japan so whose worse?

"While many gamers may not about these games, mainly casual gamers, the many others whom do know about them also know they are a problem for Japanese game developers trying to appeal towards Western audiences."

And no eroge, real eroge games ever come to the west. So you dont know what your talking about

"That is the reason a lot of gamers are very uncomfortable about Japanese games,"

Actually more people are uncomfortable with western games which is why japanese games sell more worldwide

" while most are quirky and silly looking, some gamers can’t get past the point that Japanese games follows different rules."

Generalize and generalize

"You can’t really blame them for not wanting to pay attention to Japanese games, for every Katamari game that’s weird but fun there’s twenty games like Gun Gal that ruins people perception on Japanese games in general."

Gun gall is highly reviewed and sells very well. So whats ruining percention? you dont think dragon age ruins western games? and shows them to be the generic pieces of shit they are?

"It’s very closed minded to allow games like Gun Gal destroy what games like Mario and Metal Gear worked hard to show the world, Japanese games can be played and understood without needing to understand "
Japanese cultures."

you have no right to talk about a closed mind

"That’s the problem with the Japanese gaming industry, it’s destroying itself because it’s afraid to leave the comfort zone and explore the world."

the real problem is idiots like you.

Do you even know what d'arc are? devil survivor? do you even know games at all?

"How can Japanese developers get past the negative representation they have gained from their fellow peers?"

How has the west gotten past its negative reputation? ignore ignorant, moronic, articles like this

"For one, stop putting tiny children in revealing clothing and saying they’re of age; that’s not even weird, that’s just flat out creepy."

diamonds and tiaras...................brittney spears, ect. Dont accuse others what the US has done for decades...............

"While a lot of Japanese games usually make use of teenagers in their games, mostly JRPGs, they try to bring in a certain demographic by adding a little girl to join in the players party.

Publishers at times even change characters ages, like with Atelier Totori, characters received a three year jump compared to the original Japanese release."

YOU ARE SUCH A DUMBASS.............TOTORI IS 18. 18 YEARS OLD IDIOT. ATELIER HAS BEEN A SUCCESSFUL FRANCHISE FOR 15 YEARS, SELLS WELL IN THE US, VERY WELL.

"Next, I know it’s a Japanese thing but, fewer males whom looks like girls and fewer whiny female characters."

Fire emblem?> mario?

"Females in general are looked at as weak characters, even in the West, but at least the West creates harden tough females."

like? nothing. your such a dumbass.....................valkyria chronicles, tough girls, ff, tough girls, dq, tough girls, ect.

the west has done nothing

"While there are very few strong female characters in Japanese games"

wrong

"I can’t help but be annoyed by how crappy females are in Japanese games, they are the worst in JRPGs."

generalizing false opinion

"Japan has something against men with muscles;"

you want them all to be steroid freaks like gears of war and that crappy rpg mass effect?

largo, barrett, bowser. There you go in 2 seconds I thought of 3 j rpg characters with muscles

"Some Japanese developers have admitted that Japan is behind technical wise when it comes to making video games, it’s mostly coding that seems to hurt Japanese developers."

And they all say japan is the best in the world at creating emotion, believable worlds, and games. Technology is irrelevant without the former

"In order to solve this problem Japanese developers and publishers should put aside any and all xenophobic feelings they may have and just work with more western developers or publishers."

Why would they want to work with shitty talent? Capcom has even said they would never give anything substancial to a western dev that they arent leading the ship on.

"This may be the biggest problem with the Japanese gaming industry, most refuse to work with publishers or developers outside of Japan."

its the best thing because they are garbage

"That needs to end, it may not seem like it but, Japanese developers can learn a lot from other teams like DICE or Bioware.

DICE has turned the tired formula of FPSs into something exciting again and Bioware has drawn in people who would otherwise turn a blind eye towards RPGs in general."

dice creates the same game over and over. An over hyped shooter thats generic. Bioware has alianated its entire fanbase

"More developers should follow Capcom’s lead of entering the western market, by having both western and eastern studios Capcom can focus and study both markets at once."

Actually capcom has already admited that was a mistake and they only give the west hand me down prjects.

"They just need to find a way to separate themselves from the eroge genre that has plagued their side of the industry and paints a negative picture in the eyes of the world."

And porn isnt bad in the west? eroge hasnt been popular in japan and the US for decades?

The hypocritical a hole is annoying me.
