Final Fantasy VII Coming To PC Via Digital Download?

Could we see Final Fantasy VII on Steam in the near future?

It seems fans of the SquareEnix classic Final Fantasy VII may be getting their wish… sort of.  The website finalfantasyviipc.com (taken down, yet saved via Google chace) was recently registered by SquareEnix, hinting at a PC re-release of the beloved RPG. While it isn’t the HD remake extravaganza that most fans have hoped for, it is a step in the right direction as the game could be given a small HD makeover.

The website states that cloud saving (hehe, Cloud), achievements, and, most interesting of all, a character booster that allows players to give themselves an edge in times of need. In the words of the website:

Find yourself stuck on a difficult section or lacking the funds to buy that vital Phoenix Down? With the Character Booster you can increase your HP, MP and Gil levels to their maximum, all with the simple click of a button, leaving you to enjoy your adventure.

Is it just me, or does that sound suspiciously like thing you can use if you pay extra, real money? Regardless, I’m glad that the game is (supposedly) getting this re-release as I may actually get around to finishing it this time! But really, Square, where is my FFVI remake ala FFIV for the DS?
