What the PlayStation 4 could mean to the PlayStation Vita

The PS4 Could Be The PS Vita’s Savior

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the PlayStation 4 announce event as much as the next guy, but there was one major void I couldn’t help but notice. This void is the lack of specifics of PlayStation Vita functionality as it ties into the PlayStation 4. Now could this jsut be because they haven’t ironed out what the Vita will be able to do? Maybe, but I doubt they would announce without having all hardware questions answered thus leading me to believe they wanted to save if for E3 this summer.
As was noted time and again after the press conference last month in New York City, no one saw the actual console, which leads me to believe that at E3 they will focus upon blowing the doors off of any mystery surrounding the PS4 including what the Vita will do with the console, but until then all we have is conjecture, and in that spirit here is what I desperately want to see from the Vita at E3.

Original Gears of War Included With Judgement

Gears of War Judgement title

Gears of War Judgement rumored to include original Gears of War.

One of Microsoft’s most successful franchises, Gear of War, will be getting a new game this March. Gears of War Judgement will be hitting stores soon, but there is a rumor circulating that Judgement will ship with another game included. The rumor states that a download code for the original Gears of War will be included in the box.The rumor does make sense considering Judgement is a prequel to the original game, and that is a good way to get people to bite on the rest of the franchise.

Gears of War Judgement is being developed by People Can Fly, and places the player in the perspective of the fan favorite, Baird. Fans of the series can expect some cool new features, such as the Smart Spawn System, and will give players some insight on events that occurred before the original trilogy. A new multiplayer mode known as OverRun, will also introduce a class based multiplayer, a first for the franchise. Gears of War Judgement hits stores on March 19th, 2013 for the Xbox 360.

Sony Rumored to Introduce New Controller for Playstation 4

Move combined with Dualshock?

Move combined with Dualshock?

Sony planning to introduce new controller design?

The Next Gen rumors are starting, and they are not going to stop.

The Dualshock has been around since the original Playstation, but it looks like Sony might retire the controller for the Playstation 4. Rumors are circulating that the recent news of Sony filing for a patent on controller designs, are indeed for a new controller. There have been many different patents filled by Sony. Some include controllers that can break apart. While others include technology similar to Nintendo’s Wii U. There have also been designs seen that are redesigns of the Playstation Move. So it could just be Sony exploring different options for motion controls.

It is definitely safe to say Sony is looking at different options for their future hardware, but ditching the traditional controller altogether seems a bit crazy. Sony has always had a great design that seems to be great for games of all genres. Could Sony simply offer different options for their next console? Seems more likely to me, but we wont know for sure until the official unveil of Sony’s Next Generation console.

Resident Evil Revelations Coming To PS3 and Xbox 360?

3DS Exclusive title rumored to be hitting PSN and XBLA

It appears as though Capcom is planning to bring their hit 3DS title Resident Evil Revelations from handhelds to consoles, according to a Korean Ratings Board listing. The listing, filed on November 14th, doesn’t say much aside from that “Biohazard Revelations” (the Japanese title for the Resident Evil series) is coming to both the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. It’ll be interesting to see if and how Capcom decides to spruce up the 3D game, which boasted a campaign mode featuring both Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, and the multiplayer Raid mode. I expect the game to come as a downloadable title, ala what Capcom did with Resident Evil 4 HD and Code Veronica HD. Let’s just hope they spell “Revelations” right this time.

Halo 4 Multiplayer to be Sold Separately?

Halo 4 multiplayer to be sold separately?

Halo 4 multi-player content can be downloaded, is Microsoft planning something?

If you are one of the millions playing Halo 4, you might of noticed something a little odd when you tried to access War Games. When trying to get to the multi-player section of Halo 4, Microsoft asks the player to either insert disc 2 of Halo 4, or to download the multi-player from Xbox Live. The question is, why would anyone want to download the multi-player assets when they have the disc?

It really doesn’t make much sense. Every copy of Halo 4 comes with a second disc for purely install purposes only, and there is no chance that players can use the second disc to play the multi-player of Halo 4. Players need the first disc to play any part of Halo 4. Is Microsoft going to sell the multi-player portion of Halo 4? It sure is possible.

FF Versus 13 Quietly Cancelled?

According to Kotaku sources SquareEnix has canceled the one Final Fantasy game that fans actually wanted, other than a re-release of FF7 in HD, Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

SquareEnix plans to continue ahead with the Fabula Nova Crystallis series, FF Agito 13 (or Type-o as it has been renamed) still has no official date or announcement for lands beyond Japan.

On September 1st SquareEnix is celebrating 25 years of the Final Fantasy franchise  and they have announced that they would be doing a presentation called “Final Fantasy XIII Lightnight Saga: New Developments Presentation”, the panel is to talk about “details on the future of the FFXIII project”.

Multiple sources have said that SquareEnix has chosen not to announced Versus XIII as canceled, instead they plan to let the buzz for the game die down and end quietly without making an official announcement.

One source has even come out to say the game “has been canceled for the last few weeks, it had an impact on the staff” when they found out.

After the embarrassment of FF XIV and fans getting a cheap PC port instead of remake of FF 7 is SqaureEnix digging themselves a grave on purpose or are they getting ready for a big surprise announcement at the 25th anniversary celebration?

Final Fantasy VII Coming To PC Via Digital Download?

Could we see Final Fantasy VII on Steam in the near future?

It seems fans of the SquareEnix classic Final Fantasy VII may be getting their wish… sort of.  The website finalfantasyviipc.com (taken down, yet saved via Google chace) was recently registered by SquareEnix, hinting at a PC re-release of the beloved RPG. While it isn’t the HD remake extravaganza that most fans have hoped for, it is a step in the right direction as the game could be given a small HD makeover. Continue reading

Microsoft to Unveil Xbox Branded Tablet?

Microsoft to reveal Windows 8 tablet “XTab”  with enhanced Xbox Live features?

Rumors have been flying around that the secret meeting Microsoft has planned for Monday, will be the stage where the official Microsoft branded tablet running Windows 8 will be debuted. The better question is if the new hardware will have a gaming focus, and be related to the Xbox family.

The rumored “XPad or Xtab,” comes form the fact that gaming companies like IGN have received invitations to the event. Microsoft has never made a dedicated handheld, but their mobile platform Windows Phone 7, has Xbox Live features like games with achievements. A new tablet built by Microsoft is already a big deal, but integrating games that can be played to earn achievements and talk to your friends that are signed into Xbox live would make the tablet even sweeter. We already know about Smart Glass, and the Xbox Live app that will be included with Windows 8, but Microsoft has been very quite on the full details when it comes to the future of Xbox Live on devices other than the Xbox 360.
