What the PlayStation 4 could mean to the PlayStation Vita
The PS4 Could Be The PS Vita’s Savior
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the PlayStation 4 announce event as much as the next guy, but there was one major void I couldn’t help but notice. This void is the lack of specifics of PlayStation Vita functionality as it ties into the PlayStation 4. Now could this jsut be because they haven’t ironed out what the Vita will be able to do? Maybe, but I doubt they would announce without having all hardware questions answered thus leading me to believe they wanted to save if for E3 this summer.
As was noted time and again after the press conference last month in New York City, no one saw the actual console, which leads me to believe that at E3 they will focus upon blowing the doors off of any mystery surrounding the PS4 including what the Vita will do with the console, but until then all we have is conjecture, and in that spirit here is what I desperately want to see from the Vita at E3.
Star Wars 1313 E3 Impressions
Star Wars 1313 Proves That You Don’t Need to Be a Jedi to Be a Badass
At this year’s E3, LucasArts gave us a first look at their gorgeous new game, Star Wars 1313. It was only a short gameplay trailer, but it quickly became one of the most exciting reveals at E3. Star Wars 1313 is a third-person shooter that follows the life of a bounty hunter; instead of the usual Jedi. As this game is technically only in its alpha stage, almost nothing is being said about the story aside from the fact that it takes place in the galactic capital Courescent and takes place between episodes 3 and 4. Coruscant is a world, entirely made up of one huge city. It is a city so large it had to build over itself. The city-planet contains thousands of levels, each with a number; and the lower you go, the more dangerous it gets. This game takes place in the seedy crime filled underworld of level 1313. Since Star Wars 1313 is about bounty hunters, chasing the worst villains and scumbags in the galaxy, LucasArts aims to make it the darkest, grittiest Star Wars game ever. This will be the first mature-rated title in the franchise.
The WiiU Can Succeed, Here’s How
2012 will be the year that Nintendo strikes first in the next gen console war. While we have no idea what Microsoft and Sony’s next consoles will be like, we have a lot of information on the WiiU. Many people have stated their opinion that it’s just too late for the WiiU, and I would even agree to some extent, but Nintendo can make the WiiU successful.
The WiiU focuses on one thing to sell it, the tablet controller. Nintendo did the same thing with the Wii and the Wii-mote, and it worked flawlessly. Many people bought the Wii because of the idea of motion controls, and Microsoft and Sony even made their own motion controller schemes to compete against Nintendo. The WiiU tablet is a whole different type of gimmick, and Nintendo is hoping they can once again innovate rather than directly compete against the competition, but is it too late for Nintendo?
The WiiU tablet is exciting many gamers and developers for good reason. Nintendo is expanding the idea of the DS, and bringing it to the console space. Having 2 screens opens a whole new world for gaming. Imagine playing Madden and never having to leave the field. You could pick all of your plays right from the tablet. Same goes for Zelda, being able to select all your items without having to access another menu can make even more mind bending puzzles. A second screen can really push gaming to the next generation, but the tablet can do so much more.
Nintendo has already said that the tablet will have an internet browser, and it will have some sort of video chat functionality. We also know that you will be able to stream game play from the console to the tablet, providing game play even when your TV is occupied. Nintendo will also be making the leap to HD, and it will be bringing all of its franchises with it. While all of the features sound great, Nintendo is still playing catch up, but there are a few things Nintendo can do to make a huge impact, and truly build a console that people will want.
