Game: Guilty Gear X2(Various versions, 2002)
I love me some metal. I also happen to love video game music. Sure, there are a bunch of cover bands who do metal arrangements of video game music, but how many games have a hard rockin’ soundtrack to begin with? Enter the Guilty Gear series of games.
The above piece is just Character Select music, and I’ve literally listened to it every day. It gets me pumped as all hell and ready to do anything. The soundtracks for the games, composed by Daisuke Ishiwatari (who also happens to direct, design, and do voice acting for the series), all have heavy metal and rock influences. It isn’t hard to tell where he gets his influences from, as various characters in the game are named after famous metal bands (Slayer, Testament, etc.). Here, check out a few of the best themes from the series:
Stay tuned next week, when we’ll be highlighting another great selection of video game music!
